Re: excess oil on drum 8570

That rubber strip is what cleans the drum off on excess wax and oil. It is part of the drum wiper blade assy. part number is likely 033K04980. While you have the the wiper blade assy out, take a good look at the drum maintenance camshaft. Should have 2 black cams and 1 white one. Those are what drive the wiper assy up to clean, the black gears tends to have a slight crack develop and the cam slips causing wiping issues, poor print, excess oil etc. The crack usually occurs on the thin edge of the cam. Really take a close look at it and replace it as well while you already have the wiper assy out. Again, part number is likely 008K02370. If you need to take it out, google or youtube the gear assembly homing as well. That gear assembly that needs to come out has 4 points that need to be aligned before reinstalling. It is easier than it sounds though.

I do repairs for a few of these each year, I don't touch phasers much but these are usually the 2 problem issues on all of these.

Re: excess oil on drum 8570

I've been moving to the wet maintenance kit that causes streaks and then back to the expired one now for months, and the last time I took a maintenance kit out a piece of the soft rubber strip at the base of the drum came off with it.

This 8880 hasn't been nearly as reliable or lasted as long as previous phasers (been buying them since the 340).

Re: excess oil on drum 8570

I am having the same problem, replaced the maintence kit for a Xerox Color Qube 8570. To much oil on the maintence kit transfering onto the drum. I have tried all the cleaning suggested and still having the issue. The printer printed beautifuly until I change the maintence kit.

Re: excess oil on drum 8570

my solution is that you have to clean the drum encoder strip and sensor which is located behind the drum fan on the right side

Re: excess oil on drum 8570

I'm having exactly the same issue with a new maintenance kit for an 8880.

I've tried 4 drum cleans and it's still happening. Going back to the old one (still a few paged on it) has fixed it.

The kit has been stored flat since receiving it a couple of months ago.

TIA if anyone has any ideas.

Re: excess oil on drum 8570

Hello to any and all of you that are having the issue of excessive Oil on your print outs after just changing or installing a new maintenance Kit into any of Xeroxes Solid Ink Printers. It may come down to how your maintenance Kits are being stored on the shelf. Check if your Co. is storing them on their ends. This may cause the Oil in the fiber role to build up on the end of the role where gravity could push the oil out of the fiber and then build up into the tray. This will continue until the Oil is reabsorbed into the Fiber through normal usage of the Printer. See if this will help all of you that are having this higher then normal amount of Oil showing up on your Prints after installing a new maintenance Kit.

Thanks Kinzi, but I have done that many times and there is still too much oil being deposited onto the drum.

Hey, David!

I suggest you clean the drum by following THIS guide, and see if that helps.
