I tried this and now all printers installed have disappeared. How do I reverse this?
How about El Capitan?
The solution with 10.8 and terminal commands doesn't work.
I mean when I try print or even get into Printer Options in El Capitan, everything hangs.
Anyone found out a solution for new osx?

Nevermind, I found a solution to this "filter failed" problem when printing to Phaser 3100MFP under Yosemite:
with Xerox Phaser 3100MFP printer driver for Mac OS 10.8 (the most recent available) installed:
launch Terminal
execute these two commands:
sudo sh -c 'echo "Sandboxing Off" >> /etc/cups/cups-files.conf'
sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd
Worked like a charm for me.
I do have built in drivers, it's just that none of them is generic (back to my first post in this thread).
Hmm, I dunno why you do not have the built in drivers.
You could try the open source drivers from the gutenprint project HERE and see if one of those helps.

As I said, there is no driver having "generic" in its name. And there are two that have "PCL" in its name: "HP LaserJet Series PCL 4/5" and "Zebra CPCL Label Printer". Both don't look generic to me...
Thanks for trying to help though.
Hi again, Scud!
Yes, exactly.
As this is built in you should be able to find something called Generic PCL driver or Generic PS driver. (could also be named PCL6 driver)

Thanks for your reply, but:
- by "printer queue" I guess you mean printer list at the "Printers & Scanners" section of the System Preferences;
- yes, I can see a list of drivers, but none of them is "generic".
Hi, Scud!
Sorry for the late response, u can choose the built in driver when adding the printer manually by clicking the plus icon in the printer queue.
Under the drop down menu "Print Using" you will be able to find the drivers on ur MAC.
Hope this helps, if not I can provide a more indepth walkthrough.
Best Regards
