printer is OFFLINE in Print Server

Product Name: Xerox 6605 Printer
Operating System: Not Applicable

The Xerox 6605 remains "offline" on the print server, even after replacing the drivers and reinstalling the printer many times.  a second printer of the same model also remains offline.  Is there soem configuration on the Printer that would allow it to synchronise and register with the printer server?

Usually its SNMP failing, specific with Xerox devices and TCP/IP ports.

What happens is, SNMP is on in the port, and in the Configuration tab, the data expected by each can get intercepted by the other, and Windows shows the fault as being offline. It doesn't really make sense to me, but that's Windows.

So disable SNMP on the port, but leave it on in Configuration (So the paper trays, finishing options etc ect all stay updating)

If that fails to make it come alive, start changing port types until it works

LPR=515

RAW=9100

WSD = Yeah, don't bother

Hi Joe

Thanks for the help.  Diabling SNMP has worked to remove the OFFLINE status, but nothing is helping me to print.  Tried multiple drivers PCL, PS, but not sure if this model printer has issues on a server 2008 Print Management platform

The driver only affects quality, the port is what decides if the job leaves the PC.

Use an old HP laserJet4 driver and you can print to any Xerox device, it clearly won't get great results, but the job will get there ;-)

In General, the Print Management platform is excellent for managing printers, not so much for installing them, use Devices and printers

Make sure you have the IP/Hostname right by opening CWIS from the server.

So if RAW is failing try LPR (port 9100 vs 515)

If it still fails, Telnet the printer at each port, then confirm those ports have not been closed at the device,

or that IP filtering isn't blocking the server.

As for how to install:

Remove the printer, then install this driver.

If the Wizard runs during install, choose the Printer I want wasn't listed option even if it shows up.

Then install Manually as a Local Printer

Then Create a new Port > Standard TCP/IP Port  (You need to enter your 6605 IP at this point)

Then make good and sure that the Query the Printer and automatically select a driver to use is not checked or you will just end up with the MS Class driver.

After the wizard finishes, Go into Devices and printers and then right-click the printer and choose Printer Properties > Ports > Configure Port and make your setup match these highlights exactly
