printing to Xerox WC5687 from iSeries selecting 'drawer' in WSCST PCL

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hi, i am trying to setup PCL drawer selection escape codes in workstation customization (WSCST) members on an iSeries.  i am using xerox customer support document dc05cc0359 (has Media Comment 'MEDIA SOURCE' PCL Commands), but the 'drawer' word repeatedly is not recognized by the *HP5si or *xrx4700ii manufacture type & model that the xerox is defined as in the device configuration.  I change the settings below to pull from drawer 4 ('1B266C32----48'X.) where dashes are integer 24 (hex 3234) but they seem to have no effect or are invalid drawer selections and wont allow WSCST creation.

I did have success selecting a page SIZE (:PAGSIZE) when i changed the printfile 'PAGESIZE' UOM to match the size defined in those setttings... but now i want to select 1 of 3 letter sized drawers (tray 4 on this printer, which is <esc>&l...  suggestions?  Is there a new 'Customer Tips' document for the WC5687?

Re: printing to Xerox WC5687 from iSeries selecting 'drawer' in WSCST PCL

you can use this i think , the 56xx is the same as the 23x generation

http://www.office.xerox.com/support/dctips/dc06cc0389.pdf

or maybe the 57xx series :

also what firmware is your machine? in some new firmware releases there are fixes including honoring pcl commands

for example :

21.120.60.060 Tray PCL command is not honored when the tray is not standard/white/paper - printing from mainframe or single PCL file

Re: printing to Xerox WC5687 from iSeries selecting 'drawer' in WSCST PCL

Thanks for your reply.  In the dc10cc0465 document, it recommends a PJL command to specify 'unspecified' paper type when wanting to select paper by the source tray.  in my iSeries (Power 7) world, the print file has a 'Workstation Customization' object, which contains PCL commands. This can be retrieved via RTVWSCST and the PCL command defaults are filled in, which i can then modify.  My question:  Where do i put these PJL commands in relation to the PCL commands within the WSCST object,, and where do i find syntax for them??  (New to PJL) - or are they not able to be put in WSCST?  (note: there are no XRX56, 57 or 23 manuf types in the WSCST retrieval, either.)

Firmware: 021.120.052.00000

Config report shows 'Printer Setup' -

Tray Priority: 6,3,4,1,2,5  (note: 4 is where my paper is)

Document Defaults:

  Size:  216mm x 279mm

  Type:  System-Default

  Color: unspecified

Re: printing to Xerox WC5687 from iSeries selecting 'drawer' in WSCST PCL

latest firmware is : 21_120_65_120

in rls notes there is something like : Tray PCL command is not honored when the tray is not standard/white/paper - printing from mainframe or single PCL file

so i think you should upgrade, so we are sure its not a software issue...

you can obtain it by calling xerox
