It's the fuser (fuses ink to paper), not the toner.

Probably cheaper to buy a new printer than it is to replace the fuser. Can't find a listing for one on Xerox.com. eBay shows one for $375.

xerox phaser 3040 problem with ink - seems to sit "on top" of the paper and comes off when touched

My xerox phaser 3040 was working ok but then about a month ago after printing several pages, some of the sheets were smudges and on the others the ink did not stay on the paper. As soon as i put my hand over the page the ink smudged and came off.

I had not changed the toner and so i don;t know why this problem has occurred. Its as if the ink is a separate layer "on top" of the paper.

Would be happy for suggestions? Is it time to switch printer? Is it just a problem with my toner? (I tried another toner but the same thing happened again).
