I want to preface this by saying we have not had the following issue with any previous Xerox Workcentres and we have deployed many 5600, 5700, 7300, 7400 series devices within our environment.
There appears to be an issue striking (seemingly) random users with the new 7500 series of Workcentres. In our environment, authentication is turned on so that users have to use their network credentials to access the scan-to-email function. We have now had 5 instances where the users are greeted by the following message:
"Access Denied
Login was successful.
However, you do not have the appropriate access to the operation you requested.
Select Close to continue.
Please contact your local administrator with any further questions."
There is no codes given that an error was encountered. We have been instructing our users to change their network passwords as this appears to clear up the problem. However, this is a workaround and not a solution. Has something changed in the way the 7500 series authenticates with LDAP?
This issue has occured on four different devices. One is a 7535 and the other three are 7545's.
i have seen this error also when i used Xerox Secure Access instead of ldap authentication
my problem whas my dns setting, the machine was able to login to the authentication server, but was unable to personalize because it couldt find the ldap server
another possibility
under ldap server settings , goto the second tab , with user mappings , change login name : to SamAccountName
So the check will be done on username instead of the default selection there
another possibility
under secutity , authentication, have you setup authozization = remotely ?
also in that same screen below ,make sure you have selected ldap for authorization and authentication, its default setup to kerberos
some things to try out :)
Thank you for the suggestions, Fabio.
We are using LDAP server type = ADS, and
Authentication server = SMB (Windows 2000/2003)
In the past, we have found this is the only way that the machine will autopopulate the To: field with the name of the user who logs onto the device.
We do have our authentication setup to perform remotely and the Login Name is set to sAMAccountName.
The odd thing is, that any of these users can walk down the hallway and use a 5600, 5700 or 7400 series device and have zero issues. The issue also does not affect all users using the device either - just a few of them.
what firmware is installed on your machine? maybe you can try updating?
We have had this occur on four devices so far and all have the same firmware version. According to a Xerox analyst that I've discussed this with it is the latest firmware but he is looking for a SPAR update (preumably this is a beta version) that we can try out.
Thanks again Fabio, the software version that is being installed on these machines upon delivery is 061.121.201.09700. I wll mention the version you are using to see if it's distributable to us.
As far as LDAP goes, I think that is just what we are stuck with for a while but I will look into Papercut. I usually use HP Webjet Admin for general printer inventory maintenance.
Where can I download this 061.121.221.29800 firmware?
