Not sure if you resolved this or not...
Just so I follow you, XWS picked up the print server with the old DNS name of the server before you renamed it, and it currently shows up under the 'Print Servers' tab with that old DNS name?
Do you run/manage your own internal DNS servers? If so, try to create a CNAME for oldname.yourdomain.local to point to newname.yourdomain.local. Ensure your XWS server is using your internal DNS servers for lookups (confirm with an nslookup that oldname.yourdomain.local resolves to the correct server), then try to remove it.
I have a feeling XWS is just freaking out behind the scenes because it can't properly looking the old DNS name of that server.
Edit: Not sure how far you got with Support, assuming you reached the typical Level 2 support. I recently discovered that there is a Level 3 "Deep dive" team as well. If my suggestion above doesn't work, try calling back and see if you can get your issue escalated to Level 3. If you go the route of uninstall/reinstall, make sure you also install anything that references MySQL -- during the MySQL uninstall it will ask you if you want to remove all databases; if this is a standalone install and you don't have any other SQL instances running on your XWS server, you'll want to do this. Otherwise when you go to reinstall XWS again it will recognize that the old database still exists.
@pteeter, Sorry for some reason didn't get the notification for this response.
Yeah I tried that and Xerox support tried that to no avail. After days of troubleshooting and waiting for other help the only suggestion offered is to completely uninstall and reinstall.
Still trying to find a good time to do this with how much we rely on printing.
Have you tried deleting and re-adding the print server? That should be the fastest way to resolve this.
We just have moved to a new printer server and due to the version of the new server I went with V. 5.6.4.6.
Looks like since I ran XWS Prerequisite before we promoted (and changed the server name) this new print server, XWS picked up the old name as the name of the print server which I didn't noticed until later.
It's during trying to add printer and create the print queue is when I saw this.
The system won't allow me to remove the wrong print server name but it won't let me add the right one either. Looks like I'm going through the motion correctly up to the pressing the save button but the new server never show up.
Anybody have any recommendation? I sent an email out to my Xerox engineer contact yesterday but he is probably on holiday.
