In addition, any modern MFP can just scan via SMB or FTP to a PC.
Drop box can easily be put on a PC and synced. And any folder in it will just be a regular folder, which means it can be shared.
And if you share it in Windows or OSX, it can use any credentials you want, which can be saved in your scan template. Obviously it can't be used to print, but at least it covers the scan portion of the problem.
It isn't really a technology thing, it is a security and legal thing.
Say I were to log into a printer in an office of 100 people and scan a job to myself, or to simply print something from my dropbox.
Now I am signed in, and forget to log back out. I go to my desk and never think about it or use it ever again.
There are now 99 people who have anytime access to not only view anything I may have in my account, but also the ability to put anything they want into my account.
If I were the developer, I would rather neither be possible, and since Dropbox has yet to add the ability (afaik) to use an alias for sign in, there really is no other option. You need to enter the full details.
I suppose the best bet would be to at least allow it to remember usernames so you would not actually need to type it all out every time, but the password fields need to be cleared, it is much too high of a legal risk for Xerox to save peoples passwords.
They (Xerox or Dropbox) certainly don't want to get on a list like this .
Had to return 6515 because absence of cloud services on that printer. Now got c405 and another issue - log in each time when scan to dropbox. Start to regret my choice - no offence, just saying what I feel now. Will this issue is going to be fixed soon?
Unfortunately, there isn't a workaround at this time.
There has been a lot of interest in having this capability. The Program Team is aware of the customer requests and options are currently being investigated. I don't have an outlook for when a solution might be available, since they are still investigating solutions. Please feel free to check back here for status updates.
is there any update to this. it makes the dropbox printing app pretty much useless, especially if you have a long email address and a complex password.
is there anyway for a user to save their credentials in these apps so that when they log in to the printer they see their dropbox?
Unfortunately we do not off that option at this time. You will have to login each time you use the app. We have had many requests for this and we have submitted a feature request so we hope to have it in a future release!
